Safety Tips

Life Jacket Loaner Program:

The Mokelumne Fire District has partnered with the California Department of Boating and Waterways to provide a Life Jacket Loaner Station at our fire station. This free resource makes it easy for families and boaters to borrow properly fitted life jackets before heading out on the water and return them when finished. Wearing a life jacket is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent tragedy. National statistics show that over 80% of people who drowned in boating accidents were not wearing a life jacket. Drowning remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children and accounts for the majority of recreational boating fatalities each year. Even strong swimmers can be caught off guard by sudden currents, cold water, or accidents on the river. By wearing a life jacket, you greatly increase your chances of survival and ensure a safer experience for everyone on the water. Take advantage of our loaner station, and remember — life jackets save lives.

Mokelumne Fire offers a free life jacket loaner program for community water safety. Return jackets after use. Call or visit dbw.ca.gov.
